Grammar: Modal verbs

• Can- can´t (ability,permission,possibility, request)

ExampleS:

1. Can you help me?
2. My teacher can´t speak Spanish

• Could-couldn´t (PAST ability, possibility, polte permission)

ExampleS:

1. Could you give me a pen, please?
2. I couldn´t write when I was little.

• Have to – don´t have to (obligation)

Examples: 

1. I have to go to school.
2. I don´t have to wake up early tomorrow.

• Must – Mustn´t (obligation, orders and advice)

Examples:

1. You must study more.
2. You mustn´t remove your mask.

• Might   = maybe-possinility present or future

Example:

It might rain tomorrow. 

• May (polite permission, possibility)

Example:

May I go to the toilet please?
